Evaluation- Question 4

How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research and planning and evaluation stages?

Whilst creating my music video I used new media technologies throughout my construction, research and planning and evaluation stages.

One piece of technology that I used was micro-soft word. I used this world- wide software and various stages of my production such as my research and planning and my evaluation stage. I particularly used this Microsoft word when completing my evaluation and textual analysis. This was helpful as the various tools on Microsoft word such as spell and grammar check and thesaurus helped me to complete my work at a high standard.

When it came to filming scenes for our music video we used a Sony hand-held camera that belonged to the school. As I own a similar camera to the one we used, I had some experience working with a camera, which proved to be useful when it came to filming and adding variety to our shot angles. Although it could be suggested that this camera is of a basic standard, we found it generally captured our footage well. However we found ourselves unsatisfied with the zoom on the camera so we made sure that we did not use it when choosing our final footage. When filming we used natural lighting, which at times conflicted with our shooting schedule due to bad weather.

On the other hand, we were able to control our lighting when using Tricaster to film our green screen/ chroma key filming. This piece of technology was particularly new to me. When filming our performer we were able to use appropriate effects such as fee to video, projector, web streaming and live virtual sets. At this point we used artificial light when filming our “studio scenes”. We were also able to further experiment with angles as we used two cameras placed at different angles rerecording at the same time.

The programme that I most frequently used was Adobe Premiere. I used the software in my planning and research stage to edit my VOX POPS as well as the construction stage to edit my music video. In the construction stage I first used Premiere to capture/import my footage, then I began to use the tools to cut away unwanted footage and to add effects to my music video. Adobe Premiere Pro proved to be very helpful as I was able to create an authentic music video as I used effects such as dip to black/white and cross dissolve which are used in real music videos.

I used www.blogspot.com for the presentation on my all of my work. I was familiar with blogspot as I used it to present my work for my foundation production. As I was familiar with blogspot I found that using the website was not time-consuming. Another website I frequently used was www.slideshare.com. I used this website to so I was able to present my work in a PowerPoint. Some of these PowerPoint’s I used when presenting my song choice and for my evaluation. I found this website useful as it enabled me to present different technologies on my blog. I also frequently used www.google.com when completing the research and planning part of my production. I used it to find images of CD covers of the indie genre so I knew what were the codes and conventions of an alum cover and for inspiration.

When creating my ancillary task I used a professional camera owned by the school. This camera proved to be very successful as it had different settings that ensured our image was of a good quality and looked authentic.

When creating my ancillary task, which included a CD Album cover- back and front and a promotional poster for the album, I used Adobe Photoshop. I was familiar with this software as I used it to create my foundation production. I felt that I had developed my skills on Photoshop. Some of these skills are being able to use the cropping tool, the airbrush tool, and being able to soften the edges of an image. Photoshop greatly helped me to produce an authentic ancillary task.

Running Comentary and Print Screens of Editing

This is a screen shot of our stop motion motif of a letter. At this point we had just uploaded the pictures onto Adobe Pro Premiere and now we are putting them in the correct order to ensure that the stop motion sequence runs correctly.

Running Comentary and Print Screens of Editing

Here we used the editing tool “additive dissolve” to show the couple switching places. We chose this editing technique to reveal that the couple are together, but yet they are moving away from each other.

Artist Career

Aritst- Lady Gaga
Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (born March 28, 1986) better known by her stage name Lady Gaga is an American pop singer-songwriter. Throughout her musical career it is clear that Lady Gaga has developed her personal style in her music videos as more detail to different concepts come through. Lady Gaga is well known for her controversial style

Lady Gaga: Just Dance-The video was directed by music video director Melina Matsoukas, and is based on the thematic content of the song of being in a party. The video begins with Gaga arriving with her background dancers at a house party, which seems to have ended. One of the dancers puts a Discolite Boombox on, blaring the music through the house. The crowd at the party appear to be sleeping in different areas, and are awoken by the music

Lady Gaga ft Beyonce: Telephone- This music video was directed by Jonas Akerlund (who as also directed other music videos for Lady Gaga such as Paparazi) and begins where "Paparazzi" left off after Gaga was arrested for killing her boyfriend by poisoning his drink. The music video is over 9minutes long with a clear narrative. For three minutes, the video shows Gaga's activities in the prison and the song does not begin until it the music is about 3minutes in; making the video a short film oppsed to just a music video.

Lady Gaga: Born This Way-The video was directed by Nick Knight and is described as a "profound, so inspiring and so incredibly beautiful" music video. The music video explores the concept of a "new race" being born and at the same time as this "new race" being born, evil is also born. The video then reveals that Lady Gaga is split in half and is being pulled by the opposing forces of good and evil. Throughout the music video Lady Gaga also pays tribute to artists such as Michael Jackson and some suggest that she also pays tribute to Madonna.

It clear that Lady Gaga's music video's have developed throughout her carrer as they have become more complexed and and have stronger concept.

Feedback

Natalie you have provided some good evidence of your research and planning work.
Targets: 1) There are some key items that are still outstanding e.g. analysis of audience research and vox pops
2) You must also add a history of a music artist / band via their music video career
3) Include screen shots of editing work with a commentary as to the visual codes you have used

Update on our progress

Due to bad weather conditions we fell behind on editing. However we have now started to edit our music video using adobe premiere. The first thing we did was to cut all unnessasry footage such mistake or bad framing so we knew exactly what footage we wanted to use. Now we have all of the footage that we want to use we are going to start adding effects and different cuts and other effects.
